How a Morning Routine Can Set the Tone for Your Day

Mornings are tough, no matter how you spin it, but I’ve learned that having a solid routine can make all the difference. My mornings set the tone for the entire day, and trust me, if I didn’t have this routine, I’d probably be running on coffee and chaos. Here’s how it goes:
5:45 AM – Rise and Shine I don’t hit snooze. I try not to. I get up, drink a glass of water (because hydration is everything), and take a few deep breaths. I make sure to think about nothing, just clear my mind. After my burnout, I’ve realized that starting the day with a calm mind is way more important than diving into a never-ending to-do list.
6:00 AM – Get Moving Next, I jump on the treadmill for 20 minutes. It’s my way of waking up my body without totally overexerting myself. After that, I do another 20-minute workout, something that gets my heart pumping and makes me feel strong. To finish off, I dedicate 20 minutes to yoga. Stretching is my favorite way to reset both mentally and physically.
7:00 AM – Coffee and Family Time Now, the important stuff. I brew myself a cup of coffee (because, let’s be honest, I need it), and I help my daughter get ready for school. This part of the morning is a little chaotic, but it’s my chaotic, and honestly, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
8:30 AM – Check In Once the rush of the morning settles, I take a few minutes to call my mom, check my calendar, and review the activities for the day. This is my “quiet” time where I make sure everything is in order, and I remind myself to breathe.
9:00 AM – Work Mode By the time 9 AM hits, I’m ready to jump into work. I’m focused, organized, and (mostly) calm. I’ve learned that it’s easier to stay on track when I’m already in a good headspace, and I get there through my morning routine.
To help with my motivation and keep me on track, I use an app called Finch. After my burnout, I really struggled to keep motivated. I would forget tasks or feel overwhelmed, but this app has been a game-changer. It’s fun, it’s easy to use, and it helps me stay organized without feeling like I’m drowning in lists.
My Night Routine – The Wind Down
By 5:30 PM, dinner is on the table, and I start to unwind after a long day. We eat as a family, chat about our days, and then maybe squeeze in an episode of a comedy show (laughter is the best medicine, right?). By 8:45 PM, my daughter’s tucked in bed, and the real relaxation begins.
I’ll pour myself a glass of wine (because I deserve it) or curl up with a book, or sometimes I’ll write in my blog, which has become a peaceful and creative outlet. The day winds down with a sense of peace, and I’m ready to do it all again tomorrow.
Pro Tip: My night routine is simple, but it’s effective. It’s the perfect balance of family time, relaxation, and a little “me” time to keep my sanity intact. It’s all about finding that equilibrium, and trust me, I’m still figuring it out—one cup of coffee at a time.
